What type of card do people use for purchases overseas ?
Most Credit Cards seem to have inbuilt FX/interchange fees

This is a great question. I typically try to use a card denominated in the currency of the country (GBP card in UK, EUR in Germany etc.). This is obviously not always possible. So I use the card where the exchange fees are most compensated by special rewards - such as miles or increase cash back.

I second what pklim is suggesting. There are also multi currency cards available where you can load various currencies and use them while there to eliminate the FX fee.

Prepaid multi-currency cards are readily available in most financial exchange centers within the UAE. It has the functions of a credit card like online transactions and are mostly Visa and Mastercard compliant.
